The Challenge of Managing Cultural Diversity in Education

In this paper, I propose to address the persistent constraining and misleading dichotomy of particularism vs. universalism in education traditional responses to cultural diversity, stressing that differences are inherent in a quest for knowledge. I discuss the right of access to education and the predominant role culture and language play. A reflection on double injunctions suggests a paradigm to help understand that the impossible task of education in the face of diversity is in fact the very condition for its possibility.
